It would still be great value at full price. I believe this is the original first Anglepoise lamp design from the 1930's with a stepped base redolent of that era yet classically geometric. It is an excellent task lamp with all the features you'd expect from an Anglepoise lamp - it will stay exactly where you position it and is beautifully engineered. A very light touch will allow for positioning of the lamp just where you want it - it won't creak as you put it there, neither will it slowly inch back to where it wants to be, both familiar irritants for users of inferior desk lamps. The base is heavy - no chance of a casual knock toppling this. Anglepoise products will complement any setting but the Type 1227 in Chrome is so gorgeous it will truly enhance any setting. Pay a visit to eBay, and you'll see very similar models dating back to the 40's going for well over �100, that's how good these lamps are.So, why is it worth the money? - It stays exactly where you want. There's no gradual creeping or sagging. Position it, and it stays there. Any position, any angle. Marvellous :) - Stylish. You can't deny it, this is one sexy lamp (well, as sexy as lamps get). - Solid. You aren't going to manage to knock this thing over. The base weight is very comforting. This lamp will probably outlast me. Anything I don't like? Just one thing. The on/off switch is black plastic, I personally think it would be classier with a full metal assembly.
